Een interface is een intermediair waardoor twee systemen met elkaar kunnen communiceren. De beelden van J.A. Mulder en de tekeningen van Paul Eachus gaan in de tentoonstelling interfaces bij galerie with tsjalling: een bijzonder samenspel aan, waarbij de galerie als interface tussen de twee systemen die de kunstenaars hebben geschapen dient.

De Assassination-serie tekeningen/fotocollage’s van Paul Eachus (UK) zijn een politiek document, dat ogenschijnlijk chaotisch is, maar tegelijkertijd zoekt naar een abstracte samenhang. Eachus exposeert zijn werk internationaal. Vooral zijn grote foto’s van zorgvuldig opgestelde assemblages van gevonden materialen vragen daarbij aandacht. Bij with tsjalling: toont hij een andere kant van zijn werk. Klein formaat collagetekeningen waarin geometrische chaos en teksten een dialoog aangaan met foto’s van beroemde moordaanslagen uit de geschiedenis. Eachus gebruikt internet om research te doen naar de moorden op onder meer John F. Kennedy, Rudi Dutschke en spion Alexander Litvinenko. Op associatieve wijze, maar met veel nauwgezetheid en geduld, werkt hij gedurende langere tijd aan de werken, die hij als een soort dagboekpagina ziet.

Op het eerste oog lijken de vaak kleurrijke sculpturen van J.A. Mulder abstract, maar wie langer kijkt ziet architectonische of landschappelijke elementen verschijnen, of soms zelfs dierlijke of natuurlijke vormen. In zijn laatste serie ‘gatenplaten’ transformeert hij simpele stukken hout tot zeer geabstraheerde landschappen. Hij beschildert zijn werk zo dat de optische illusie ontstaat dat ze van een ander materiaal zijn dan mdf, maar juist van brons, ijzer of steen. J.A. Mulder transformeert voor de expositie de galerieruimte om zo zijn beelden een te laten worden met de galerie.

Mulder is als kunstenaar autodidact, maar studeerde wel korte tijd bouwkunde in Delft. Dit zorgde voor de architectonische uitgangspunten in zijn werk. Eerder exposeerde hij zijn sculpturen onder andere meermaals bij Galerie Waalkens in Finsterwolde en in Groningen.

An interface is an intermediary that enables two systems to communicate with each other. Interface is an exhibition that brings together the sculptures of J.A. Mulder and the drawings of Paul Eachus engaging in a special combination, where the gallery works as an ‘interface’ between the systems both artists have created.

The Assassination series of drawings/photocollages of Paul Eachus are a political documents, that appear random, chaotic, like fragmented notations but simultaneously looking for a certain abstract cohesion. Eachus shows his work internationally. Especially his large photoworks of carefully arranged assemblages of found material, draw a lot of attention. At, with tsjalling: he will show another side of his practice, small scale collage/drawings, where a geometric chaos and texts activate a dialogue with photo images of famous assassinations . Eachus uses the internet to research into the attacks on a.o. John F. Kennedy, Rudi Dutschke or the Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko. The works are made over a long period of time as material and information is accumulated and processed often overlaying and discarding, through this process the work takes on a note book quality that creates its own aesthetic.

At a first glance the often colourful sculptures by J.A. Mulder seem abstract, but when one looks closer, you can see architectural or landscape elements, even animal or natural forms. In his latest series of ‘gatenplaten’ (boards with holes in them) he transforms simple pieces of wood into highly abstracted landscapes. He paints his works in such a way that optically they appear to be made of a different material than MDF, suggesting bronze, iron or stone. J.A. Mulder will transform the exhibition space so that his images will be integrated within the room.

Mulder is a self-taught artist, but briefly studied architecture in Delft. This created the architectural principles in his work. Previously, he exhibited his sculptures regularly at Galerie Waalkens in Finsterwolde and at K09 in Groningen.
